The Other Girls

Lesbian web series Scissr is set for season one!

You remember: Three Girls. Six relationships. One iPhone app. In the pilot episode of Lauren Augarten’s award winning web series Scissr, a group of (gorgeous) lesbians living in Brooklyn, NY face romantic challenges and adventures, and a little personal growth along the way…

Last year, Curve featured an article about this up and coming lesbian web series and since that piece came out, a lot has happened for the cast and crew of this urban exploration of “girls.”

Scissr has been an official selection at The LA New Media Film Festival (they won best of LGBT category), Seattle Transmedia and Independent Film Festival, and Brooklyn Web Fest where the lead, Lauren Augarten was up for the best supporting actress award.

Jamie Clayton went on to star in the Wachowskis’ Sense 8 for Netflix, and our season one player Paulina Singer went on to star in WE TV’s South of Hell with Mena Suvari, to be released later this year.

And new to the team are: award winning writer/director duo April Maxey and Summer Czajak (April was also selected for the Berlin Film Festival’s prestigious ‘Berlinale Talents’ earlier this year.

“I set about to make Scissr because nothing I saw on TV reflected the community I was discovering as a newly out lesbian,” says Augarten. “I wanted to see my world on screen, and the overwhelmingly positive response to Scissr tells me that I am not alone in that feeling.”

The Story So Far…

Scissr is the story of Emily, Corey and Aviva, three gay girls in their twenties who live in Brooklyn, NY. Aviva just came out but doesn’t know a single lesbian, Corey’s too heartbroken to meet anyone, and Emily has already slept with half of Brooklyn, rendering her pool of choice miniscule.

Once they connect through a iPhone app called SameSame, these girls will laugh, lie and do whatever it takes to help each other navigate life in this upbeat dramedy about a unique group of young women taking charge of their twenties.
